Marton Girls Win York Tournament

Marton under 10 Girls remained undefeated and did not concede a goal to win this year’s City of York Girls’ Football League Tournament. The girl’s started off well to top their group, then a single goal by Alex Doyle was enough to earn a victory in the quarter-finals.

A tight semi-final against Knaresborough Celtic, who were runners-up in the York Girls’ League, went to extra-time and penalties. Marton’s goalkeeper Hannah Helm saved 4 penalties to ensure a spot in the final against the much-fancied Fulford Girls, who had won a double in an undefeated campaign. However, a confident Marton team were able to match Fulford in every department, and Emma Bradley scored the winning goal with a few minutes to spare.

A great result which was earned through hard work, determination and good football – all ten girls contributed on the day to get a well deserved first trophy. The girls received their trophies from Jess Clarke, a current England player who scored a winning goal during the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The team would also like to congratulate Neve Benn for gaining a place at the Centre of Excellence, and to wish her good luck.

Well done girls.

Official Statement to Parents from Marton Football Club Executive

Marton Football Club are working extremely closely with officials from the North Riding County Football Association.  The close collaboration between the two institutions has forged a strong and positive relationship in the clubs objective of reinstating the Charter Standard Accreditation.

Following the ‘Marton Model’ of intervention strategies implemented by the Football Club recently, the Executive of Marton Football Club are in no doubt that the Charter Standard will be resumed and improved service will continue without delay.

The strategies adopted will improve the behaviour of a very small minority of spectators who have in the past, adversely effected the enjoyment of the children.

We are extremely proud of the family of parents associated with Marton Football Club and look forward to a bright and rewarding future together.
