Marton FC u7s travelled to Rothwell for West Yorkshires biggest tournament and came away worthy champions after some breathtaking football.
Marton played Moorthorpe Juniors in their first group match and outplayed a spirited Moorthorpe team. Max Butler playing some great 1 touch football up front and held the ball up beautifully. Snowy scores the first with a simple tap in after great work from Sam Lawrence, shortly after Max scores a goal after using some exquisite footwork. Just before the end of the match Moorthorpe break and get a consolation goal.
Next up were the unbeaten Driglington and this match had Marton strolling into the game expecting it to be easy but it was far from it with Driglington having wave after wave of attacks with Lewis Doran keeping the score down to a 2-0 defeat.
The 3rd game of the group was against the hosts Rothwell Juniors who also sported an unbeaten record but they came up against top opposition in Marton. Liam O’Hara and Harrison Rennie were in fine form at the back all day with very little getting passed them. Marton turn out worthy 1-0 winners and came 2nd in the group moving onto the Q/F where they met Stanley Utd.
Stanley were no match for Marton who tore them to shreds with their slick passing and moving and Marton won the game 2-0 with Max bagging 1 goal and Blayne scoring with a great volley.
Marton then met Altofts in the Semi Final and were on top throughout with Blayne Bullock and Joel Harrison running the match with goals from Max, Snowy and a wonder goal from Sam Lawrence who picked the ball up in his own box before charging at Altofts with lightning speed taking on 3x players before hitting the back of the net with an unstoppable strike.
Marton move on to the Final and played Driglington the team that beat Marton in the group stages. Marton started so strong outplaying Driglington in every department with Ryley Walton running the show in midfield who picks out snowy on the right who took a quick touch and smashed an unstoppable thunderbolt from 30yards out into the top corner, 1-0. Sam Lawrence then made it 2-0 with some great football between Max and Ryley. Ryley struck a shot from distance that nearly snapped the cross bar just before half time. Half time came and it could have been 5-0 with the post, cross bar and the opposition keeper keeping the score down. In the 2nd half Driglington pressed and Lewis Doran pulled off 3 remarkable saves in quick succession. Liam and Harrison who had been outstanding all day continued this into the final and Joel Harrison strong in the tackle keeping the oppositions top player from Manchester Citys academy quiet all game and Blayne still full of energy constantly at the opposition giving them no space. Then in the last minute Snowy played a sublime cross field pass to Sam who took the defender on and then hit the back of the net to make it 3-0 and that is how it ended with Marton taking 2 top scalps along the way taking Driglington and Rothwells unbeaten record from them with ease.
Marton champions showing Yorkshire how football should be played coming out worthy winners. A well done to the lads for bringing home the silverware in a tough tournament with Ryley Walton being player of the tournament.
